Hello,

I've been using the Debian packages of your multi-tty Emacs for some
time and have grown absolutely dependent on it --- it is fantastic!

But today I saw that version 0.2004.549 depends on libc6 2.3.6-6 and
since I am using Debian testing (Etch) I only have version 2.3.6-3.

Is the newest version really needed? If not, then I hope that the
packages could be rebuild in a Debian testing environment.

Never mind me... Version 2.3.6-7 entered testing today...

But it still begs the question: do the multi-tty packages really
require the newest libc? Or could one not make packages for Sarge? I
don't know how much more work it is, I am just curious.

Ubuntu users are hurt by this as well, by virtue of having a different
naming scheme: 2.3.6-0ubuntu17 is considered older than 2.3.6-6.

IMHO reducing the dependency to 2.3.6 would`ve made an awful lot of
sense...

No, the package should compile and work without problems on stable or
testing as well. However, I provide binaries only for Debian
GNU/Linux unstable.

You can easily compile the Debian packages from source yourself:

baz get lorentey at elte.hu--2004/emacs--multi-tty--0 emacs
baz get lorentey at elte.hu--2004/emacs-debian--multi-tty--0 emacs/debian
cd emacs
dpkg-buildpackage <your favourite options>

I use the "magic" script (included in the debian build directory) to
produce my builds. If you want to set up your own autobuild system,
it might serve as a reference point, although it is very much tailored
to my environment and won't work elsewhere without a rewrite.

If someone volunteers to provide public builds for other Debian
flavours or other GNU/Linux distributions, I'd be happy to put a link
on the homepage. (If you volunteer to do this, I politely request
that the packages are visibly marked as unreleased experimental
software, and that multi-tty snapshots are not added as official
packages in any distribution.)
